Boxing Day Surf

Had a good surf trip today. I was picked from saltash by a few friends from Plymouth on there way down to one of my favourite beach breaks Porthtowan. I always enjoy surfing on boxing day as the crowds tend to be slightly less then normally.

Once there, we where greeted by four foot offshore surf. It was slightly too windy to make it epic but a few good barrel breaking on the inside re-form . A good session overall, a few pictures below from the trip.

Whitsand Bay

In the last year or so I have embarked on a project to photograph the Cornwall and Devon coast with the aim of getting a good collection of images together. I'm not total sure on the final aim of this project, but when I'm happy with the collection I'll probelly make a book or set up an exhibition and start marketing a bit to sell the image for calenders and things like that.

As Whitsand Bay is the closest beach to where I live I thought it was about time I took a photo trip down there. Was an enjoyable shoot with some good evening light. My friend Becky also joined me for the trip which made for some great company. Below are two of the images I was most happy with from the session.

Suzy & Lee's Wedding

I have known Suzy since secondary school, she's a great friend and a real inspiration for me, so when she asked my to photograph her and Lee's wedding I was delighted to except and knew it was going to be a really fun day.

The wedding ceremony was held at the Upton Vale Baptist in Torbay with the reception venue in Stokeinteignhead village hall close by. I always like doing weddings with an assistant so arranged for my good friend Becky to travel down with me to help out.

We arrived early on the day to photograph some of the preparation before the ceremony. First stop was the flat where the Groom and Ushers were staying in before the wedding. I got the impression on arrival that they had been out the night before which I think is always a good way to calm the nerves! Once everyone was awake we got some cool shots and even managed to dodge the showers to get a few shots outside.

I then made my way to Suzy's house to get some photographs of her getting ready before racing to the church. The ceremony was really nice and heart warming. The church has a really high ceiling and a upper viewing level so the atmosphere was something really special.

After the ceremony we went down to the water front for some photographs, before heading up to the reception. The evening celebration where really fun with some great speeches and really good music and food. Congratulation to Suzy and Lee for the marriage! A few of my favourite highlights form day.

South Coast

Waves have been pumping last few days with some quality swell hitting the south coast of Cornwall and Devon. Really has been picture perfect, and from the photographs I'v seen by Matt Hawken at www.kernowbodyboarding.co.uk Porthleven was the place to be be. Unfortunately due to work I haven't been able to get on the road till midday and with sunset at 4.15 there hasn't been an awful amount of time to travel to my favourite surf/shooting destinations.

So decided to stay local and drive down to a cool little cove nicked named spot P not to far from Whitsand Bay on the south-east corner of Cornwall. It's normally a place I enjoy snorkelling in the summer months but happens to get good waves in the winter. Once I got down there I met a small groups of surfers, and spent the afternoon documenting there surf session before doing some seascape photography down by the harbour just before sunset. A great way to spend the afternoon.

Robin&Jackie

Had the pleasure of photographing Jackie and Robins wedding on the 9th of October last month.

I'v known Jackie for a while as I often get my hair cut at her salon but it wasn't until I photographed her daughters dance group one day that she saw my photography and decided to hire me for her wedding day.

The ceremony and reception was held at the Falcon Hotel in Bude. It was a stunning venue in a great location with the beach only a short walking distance away. So many great highlights from the day it was difficult to pick just a few to show in my blog, so to view the whole collection click HERE.

Congratulations to Jackie and Robin!

South Devon Session

Had a really fun session on the southcoast with Matty Allen, Neil, Ollie Howe and Medland. I enjoy exploration and finding new waves to surf and this was my first time at this sport. A really cool place, scenery was stunning and the wave were punchy and ideal for bodyboarding.

The waves where small on the day we surfed but you could see the potential and get an idea of what it would be like with a bigger swell, a place I look forward to re-visiting!

The weather was also good with blue skys and bright sun which was idea for water photography. The guys where shredding the small surf on the drop knee (bodyboarding technique) so I got my camera and documented the session. I few of the shots I captured below.

Contort Bodyboarding Magazine

My good friend Matty Allen has been working on this for a little while now and I got my hands on issue one of this magazine for the first time on the weekend.

I must admit I was pretty stoked with the magazine, the design, layout and quality of the content which is brilliant. Contort is a magazine about British bodyboarding and it's community as well as some international articles on the sport of Bodyboarding . Please have a quite look at the home page of Contort magazine at contortmag.com

I was also happy to have a few photographs featured in the magazine which you can grab as a printed magazine or download for a computer or Iphone.

Stuart and Naomi

I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Stuart and Naomi on the 25th of September at Boringdon Hall in Devon. It was my first visit to Boringdon and I was really impressed by how great the venue was.

The Ceremony took place in a beautiful court yard, with the reception held in a large gazebo located in the gardens.

The days celebrations was really relaxed and heart-warming with a lot of highlights and photo opportunities, including a great ceremony, a bouncing castle and a visit from a group of owls from the local rescue centre.

All the best to Stuart and Naomi, a few photography highlights of there celebrations below.

Portreath Surf Session

Some quality swell forecasted for this weekend, and with the weekend free from wedding shoots I jump on the opportunity of travelling down to the coast with fellow boogers Matty, Scot and Glen for some surf photography.

I recently recovering from a bad viral bug so didn't take my water gear but opted instead to dust of the zooms lens and grab a few shots of the action from land.

With the neap tide times most of our first choice spots weren't an option, so decided to check portreath which wasn't a disappointment with head heigh waves on sets and a few barrels coming off from the pier.

Looks like we should be in for a run of good swells now so hopefully have more shoots to update soon. A few snaps below from the action.

Daniel & Shontelle

Daniel and Shontelle got married on the 20th of August at Plymouth registry office before moving to the Walruss Inn for the wedding breakfast and later to Image night club for the disco.

They asked me to photograph the preceding of there day and capturing plenty of photographs of there family and friends. Unfortunately the weather wasn't playing ball and was awful for most of the day which made it a bit of challenge with the photography in the lowlight. But the day was filled with loads of memorial moments.

Delivered the final package to them last weekend while photographing Daniels sisters wedding, they were delighted with the results which makes it all worth while.

I have a few weeks off now till my last two weddings of the season, hoping to get some good waves this weekend and concentrate on a few more projects, will keep it updated.

A selection of photographs from the day below.

Gareth & Aimee

I photographed the wedding of Gareth & Aimee on the 18th of August. They had a small wedding ceremony before heading to Hollywell bay for a BBQ on the beach.

The weather was awful for most of the day and I would be lying if I said I wasn't slightly concerned about the possible lack of photo opportunities with a bbq in the rain on the beach! But by some miracle the weather cleared up an hour before the start time producing some glorious evening light. A few pictures from the beach BBQ below.

Laura and Stephens Engagement Shoot

Laura and Stephen are a young couple from Saltash who are getting married next October. I always enjoy pre wedding or engagement shoots as I find it a great way to meet the couple and build there trust before photographing there wedding.

Laura and Stephen asked me to photograph them on the water front at Plymouth Hoe as the place had some sentimental value to them. Is a perfect area for these kind of shoots and with nice weather it was an enjoyable hour of photography.

Looe Bay Seascape Shoot

Looe bay has been one of those locations that I'v found quite difficult to photograph. It's relatively close to where I live so been visiting it frequently but I've struggled to get a good composition every time I've been and the lights never quite been right.

This occasional was slightly different. I explored the water edge on the west side of the town and managed to climb onto a rock at the entrance of the river which produced a cool angle of the pier and background of the town. I had hoped the sunset would have been more dramatic but the light was still interesting. Happy with some of the results that will be well suited as addition to my stock collection.

Below are a few of the shots with slightly different compositions that I've put together as HDR images. Still working on the normal versions.

Cornish Waterfal

Found this waterfall on route to Tintagel. After walking 2 miles through woodland following a river I came across a little cottage in the middle of no-where in deep undergrowth. A small path ran from the cottage garden into a deep gully, at the end of the gully was this waterfall.

Really stunning area that seemed to be popular with spiritual people with all the shrines that where places along the cliff gully. After doing a bit of research found it was originally where Saint Nectan lived in 500 A.D which explains all the shrines and gifts left there. A really photogenic place.

Shoot for Foot Clinic

I did a small commercial shoot for a foot clinic a few months ago. The brief was to capture a portrait of the owner in the environment of the clinic to put on her website.

I'm finding more and more people are starting to hire me for these small kind of shoots and a few more updates from these kind of projects will follow soon.

Surf session at Fistral.

Had a great surf trip down Fistral Beach with some old friends. I knew Carl for a long time back when we went to school together and I was only too keen to hook up again when he extended the offer to join him and a few mates on a surf trip.

The surf was a nice size and I decided to swim out with my camera. Unfortunately one of my swim fins snapped so I had a good work out swimming around the impact zone with one fin but was still fun, and got some cool shots with some good surfing going on in front of the lens.

The day ended watching the sunset at Newquay town beach eating fish and chips, listening to Libby playing the guitar. Good times with great people, nice way to end the weekend.

April,May,June,July,

It's been a busy four months since I'v last undated. The seascape project I'v been working on has progressed a fair bit. I'v taken trip to Godrevy,St ives, Portreath, and crackington haven to name a few. Been great to explore this this much of Conrwall. Aside from this I have done a few small commercial and portrait jobs which rang from photographing interiors or indoor bowling greens and portraits for a foot clinic! Also had the pleasure of working with a good friend Bob how is a keen mountain biker. We went to a beautiful part of the coastline called the Strangle to get some scenic action shots for stock portfolio's.

I have enjoyed some great surf and snorkel session which I have had great fun documenting. Next month I have a batch of four weddings. Looking forward to getting some fresh wedding imagery for my portfolio to aid my promotion drive for next year. My friend Matty is also launching a new magazine covering uk bodyboarding which I'm looking forward to be part off in the forthcoming months.

Some of my work below from the last few months.

Plymouth Fashion Shoot

Did a relaxed shoot with my friend Anna around a few spots in Plymouth yesterday evening. The aim of the shoot was to get some practise using my lighting equipment and scouting out some cool locations for future shoots.

Anna was only back in the uk for a few weeks so was really gratefully she could spare the time to do the shoot with me.

The first location we visited was an empty car park close to the city centre, then we headed to the main street area and lastly a church which all made for some interesting locations and back drops. I few shots from the shoot below.

Porth Nevan

I took a third trip to this really fascinating cove close to St Just in west Cornwall to try and improve on my previous seascapes from here. Got a few nice shots, one of my favourites from the shoot is below.

Early Mornng Surf Trip.

Had a cool trip to north Cornwall this morning. Left Saltash about 5am in the hope for some nice high tide waves which my friend Matty was going to surf while I photographed. Unfortunately the surf was alot bigger then we expected and wasn't breaking vary nicely. We drove around for a little while checked a few other spots but we where pushed for time and didn't end up getting in. The trip it's self was good and I did get a few cool candid shots from are travels which I'll shared below.
