The Wedding of Steven & Leigh-Ann

Had the pleasure of photographing Leigh-Ann and Steven getting married at St Mewan Church on the 7th of May.

It was a great day of celebration, with many memorable moments. The day started with the ceremony at St Mewan Church which is a delightful venue just outside St Austell. After the ceremony we wondered down to a favourite beach of their's called Gyllyngvase. Once there, we had a quick portrait session before moving on to the reception venue at the beautiful Green Bank Hotel.

The speeches occurred after the meal and were full of laughter and tears and some great stories! Afterwards we ventured outside to proceed with the group shots before the evening party commenced. The day was finished off by the release of Chinese Lanterns. A storm broke out at about this time with thunderclaps and torrential rain, so everyone released the lanterns from the disco room balcony which was really nice.

Big congratulations to Leigh-Ann and Steven.

A few photographs below from the day.

Equitment Test

Purchase a soft-box grid for my speedlite a few days ago and decided to test it out before this weekends wedding in Plymouth. The grid helps prevent light spillage from the soft box, and will be useful for upcoming weddings. My friend Becky often helps me out assisting and came over for a briefing on the weekends preceding. She was only too happy to do a bit of modelling to test out the lights. Happy with how they worked and the results! A quick shot from the shoot below.

North Cornwall Bodyboarding Session

Had a good bodyboarding trip to the north coast of Cornwall yesterday. Travelled down with Bodyboarder Aaron Dinham to a Sheltered shore break called Spot M.

On arrival we where greeted but solid 4ft stormy waves accompanied with good sunny weather which was great for the photography. I felt slightly under the weather so opted to leave my water gear at home and photograph with my land set-up.

Although the session was good, it was far from it's best. A few factors like the cross shore winds and swell direction wasn't allowing the wave to break cleanly with alot of close-outs coming through, although the fact it had some size made up for it a litte.

A few stand out riders I saw from the session where Aaron Dinham, Matty Allen, Matt Bradley,Alex Allen, Jonny Meloy, Neil Adams, Eldred Hawke, Scott Richards, Sam Mumford, Ben Pascoe and Chris Bray just to name a few.

After a few hours Aaron called it a day and we started heading to the car where I bumped into Matty Allen how had just arrived. He offered to give me a lift home which allowed me to head back down the beach for a few more hours of shooting. Overall a fun session and looks like more swell through the week! A few pictures from the trip.

Snorkelling at Wembury

Took a trip with my good friend James Prendergast to Wembury for a snorkel and swim session. As usual with these trip I took my camera and documented what went on.

Wembury is a pleasant beach located on the south coast of Devon. It has an Island just offshore called the Mewstone which we where aiming to snorkel toward and hopefully see some sea life on route.

On arrival it was low tide and after clambering over the rocks and shallow rock pools we make it into deeper water and where greeted by good visibility of around 8-12 meters.

It took about 30 minutes swimming at a steady pace to reach the Mewstone and once we arrived we had to attempt to climb to the top. Not a easy matter as it was overgrown but we made it and where rewarded with some of the best views I'v seen from Devon.

Overall a really great trip, A few photographs below from our journey.

Prendies.

We tried to get a few fun portraits, which was more difficult then it seems! A comical shot of Prendies swimming towards the camera.

Saw a few of this Star fish on the sea bed, amazing colouring on some of them.

One of my favourite captures from the trip.

The view from the Mewstone.

On the way back a big group of seagulls flow over, felt surreal.

Summer Surf

Forecast looked quite promising for a few of our favourite beach breaks to produce some good waves. The only down side was the swell direction which was more southerly then preferred.

The long term forecast didn’t look great so we headed down anyhow not wanting to risk staying home and later hearing that it had indeed been firing.

We arrived at the first spot check of the morning and walked to the viewing point on the cliff, a few people where getting pretty excited and running down but to us it looked a bit small and the tide wasn’t low enough.

We had a choice to make, either stay here and get some small but surfable waves or travel up the coast on a one way trip on a search of something better. We opted for the latter and 40 minutes later arrived to our second beach of choice. We recongized a few bodyboarders cars parked up already so decided to make our way straight down instead of checking.

We where hoping for some pumping condition but once at the water’s edge we realized it wasn’t pumping and infact smaller then the first place we checked. Could see teasing swell lines passing across the bay but it wasn’t getting in due to the swell direction. We where disappointed to say the least but with no other option we got in at the 1-2ft crowed beach. The sun was out and the company good so it was a fun session but far from epic.

The surf photography was more of a water portrait session then action but got a few fun results. A few pictures from the trip.
