Crackington Haven

Crackinton Haven is one of my favourite area's to photograph in Cornwall and with the good weather I'v taken three trips down there in recent evenings. Asides from my tripod taking a quick swim on the first day I was generally happy with how the shoots went with a few keepers. Some example's below of what I captured.

Haryln Bay

Had a good surf at Harlyn Bay with Matty Allen and Richard Gotham. On the trip we checked two spots, one being Haryln and the other being Spot M. Both work well in similar swell and wind conditions but Haryln needs steep low tide banks to really work well and on this session it was firing on all cylinders.

A few photographs from the session.

Near the end of the session I swapped my camera for Matty's board, and he managed to capture this shot of me. I have vary few surf photos of myself and this is by far the best, cheers Matty.

Downderry Seascape Shoot

Downderry is a cool little coastal town about 20 minutes from where I live. It's a difficult place to photograph as there's no major focal point or landmark but sometimes I find the challenge of such places produce some great results.

I arrived an hour before sunset to find a good view point to photograph, unfortunately the tide was racing out fast constantly changing the the look at the waters edge so was a bit of a rush finding a half decent view point. Got a few shots but wasn't completely happy with them. A re-shoot will be in order soon.

My favourite shot from the shoot.

Saltash Water Front

I decided to embark on project on my flickr website called 365. It consists of me taking and uploading one photograph for every day of the year to my gallery so that I have a documentation of my year in photographs. A few photographers I know have done this as a way to focus there photography and creativity so I thought I would give it a go and see if it can help me with my creativity.

These images where captured on the second day of the project. Saltash water front is one of the best photographic places in the town and you often get a lot of mist in the morning which can produce some great atmospheric conditions. Tried shooting down there few time but today rewarded some of the best results so far.

These two shots where my favourites from the sessions.

South Coast

The south coast of Cornwall has had a good run of surf in recent days which has allowed for some memorable surf and photo trips.

On this session I went to my local beach Seaton. This beach break is normally quite sheltered but when the swells big from a southerly direction it can really get good but today wasn't one of those days although still looked fun.

I photographed at Seaton for a hour or two before making my way to Portwrinkle for some seascape photography at twilight. Some shots from the travels below.

Framed

I find it rewarding when people purchase my art and it's always cool to see it framed. I order the frame and prints from a company who put it all together for me but I always get them to send it to my address first just so I can quality check it before sending it on to the client, with the recent surf sessions and prints sales it's been a great start to the year!

North Cornwall Surf Session

I'v documented bodyboarders surfing this spot for quite a few years now, but never really from the land before. It's one of my favourite places to photograph and a perfect place for water shooting but this time mix it up a bit and decided to go for a different perspective. One of the shots from the session below.

New Years Day Surf

We had been aware of the potential for good surf on New Years day for most of the week, but it is always a risk with the south coast as the slight change in condition can make for what would be an epic session into flat conditions or worse! Like most things with surfing you have to take a risk sometimes. So we sacrificed a heavy night out and left early for the journey down. Was quite an overcast cast day with not even a breath of wind which we knew would mean classy condition if the swell was showing. Luckily we arrived at high tide and was greeted with fun 2-3ft classy condition with set waves coming through every 6 minutes with only a hand full of people out.

My friends who I travelled down with headed straight in , and I decided to document the session from the shore. The pier looked better then the main reef so we spent the session Bodybaording there. A good way to start the new year! A few images from the session below. You can view the whole galley HERE
